MENSTRUATION

I often find myself spending hours watching Youtube vlogs, one vlogger/ Youtuber I found particularly inspiring is The Crude Vegan, Jess Greenash. The videos that I found extremely interesting were "My Period Routine" and "I tried a Period Cup for 24 Hours" as they are very open and honest. From watching the vlogs, I set myself the task of exploring issues surrounding menstruation and how far we have come in terms of speaking openly about it. 

Or so I thought...

After some research, I found that menstruation is still a very controversial subject and that in 2020, there are still superstitions surrounding it. This encouraged me to create work that people could relate to and see how ridiculous some of the superstitions are. Period product advertisements haven't changed much to reflect realistic experiences for women. This shows that periods are still viewed as something that should be kept secret or shameful if spoken about in public discussion.
